Our Start

The Yokota Striders are a family oriented running club located on Yokota Air Base.  It was started in 1981 as a small base running club and has grown over the years to over 100 members.  The club started hosting an annual half marathon road race in January called the Frostbite.  What started as a small race over 30 years ago now has over 10,000 runners and fills up within days.  A few years later the Ekiden was started to give an American take on a classic Japanese race.  While the Ekiden has changed formats over the years the festival type atmosphere brings runners of all levels together every June to run the streets of Yokota.

Our Mission

The mission of the Yokota Striders is two fold.   Striders wants to spread the joy of running to the residents of Yokota Air Base.  We do this by holding monthly informational meetings and putting on themed base 5k runs.

Striders also aims to introduce our members to the joys of running in Japan.  We have weekly off base runs to show members some local running spots.  We also do sign-ups for two races a month in and around the Tokyo area.
